Damn, that's a "polyvalent" lens to say the least.

Bought it for racetrack related pictures so that I won't have to change lens all the time. Impressive really.

18mm:

270mm:

Keep in mind the second picture was taken fully zoomed by hand with a 1/15s shutter speed without even trying not to move! Their stabilization system "VC" works really well apparently!

Anyway pretty happy of my purchase! It's a nice cheap "do-it-all" lens for someone that does not want to deal with a heavy camera bag when going to a racetrack.

Only little default I would say is that when fully zoomed at 270mm, the maximum aperture is only F6.3 which is not exactly fantastic... It requires bright daylight or a good camera on high iso... Since I don't have the latter yet...

Next purchase, a 6D :)

Yeah, I own a Tamron 70-300 which was very cheap and takes quite decent pictures. They are great lenses price/quality wise!

Yeah you are often quite close from thecar on rally stages... Must be difficult with a 70mm lens...

I mostly shoot on racetracks though so that would have been fine for me... Just wanted a do-it-all lens :)

if you saw my perce-neige post , you'll see I got some close shots at 70. I also didn't change the zoom at all because I was wearing mitts, and my hands would freeze if I took them off.

I love the 200mm for the top of the grandstands at Gilles Villeneuve. In my preference, I'd miss the f2.8 if I used the cheaper Tamron lens you just got, but I'll never know unless I use it myself.

Yeah there is a reason why the Canon is about 6 times more than the Tamron... It's pretty much 6 times better haha

But I'm used to cheap ass zoom lens and manage to do alright with them so :)

Would love to shoot at 2.8 though :(

All these were shots with a damn cheap and old 50-250mm base Canon ...

Might I reccomend a 7D, rather than a 6 for motorsport related shooting. Ive just gone for a 7d mark ii over a 5 for the fps (10), as i value that over going full frame.

the 6D does look very nice though :), really nice entry level FF camera.

Yeah but I want a full frame camera... I'll keep the kiss x5 I have for zoom lens related shoots with crop provided by the apsc format. But I want a full frame as a main camera :)

May i also add that i shoot on my Canon the same way i used to shoot with my old Pentax ME. Even with motorsports, i set my shots on advance and use manual focus. When you have cheap gear, like I do, it's pretty much the only way to get consistent professional looking shots... so fps is not that important to me for now :)

Fair enough :) I guess I have been spoilt, I only started shooting motorsport properly about 2 years ago with a 350d, and have been through a 60d to my current 7d, so I have been allowed to get very lazy with how I shoot and the Camera will sort me out.

Also, huge respect for Manual Focus :D, I know I couldnt manage that.

Two pictures per passage with manual focus... 3 if you're a king and super fast and precise which I'm not... I mostly just settle for 1 picture :)

You sort of have to know where the nice shot will be, before it happens...

It's also pretty much the only way to get pictures through protection barriers on track... Autofocus goes crazy otherwise.
